Andrew is an experienced and versatile writer and communicator with a detailed knowledge of access and leisure issues.
He is Chair of the Peak District Local Access Forum, one of the first LAFs to be created and still one of the most progressive and dynamic. He is also a member of the Peak National Park’s Recreation Forum and a panel member on their Sustainable Development Fund.
Andrew is a frequent contributor to the local and national press, including features for walking and outdoor magazines (such as TGO), membership publications (the Ramblers’ Association’s ‘Walk’ and YHA’s ‘Triangle’) and specialist titles such as Countryside Recreation Network. He is regularly invited on to local radio talking about his books, outdoor recreation and community projects. Andrew also acts as a consultant route advisor for charity walks and leads guided walks in the Peak District.
Andrew’s employers have included legal publishers and a social research foundation, but he developed much of his specialist knowledge as Information Officer for the Ramblers’ Association. In addition to freelance writing, he has recently been engaged as PR and marketing consultant for Leader+ in the Peak, Dales & Moorlands.
Based in the lovely Peak District village of Youlgrave, near Bakewell, Andrew is closely involved with his local community as both Parish and District Councillor. He edits the village magazine and chairs the local film club, and is also secretary of a new environmental group, called Sustainable Youlgrave, which is seeking to develop local renewable energy projects and reduce the village’s carbon footprint.
