Tom has over 40 years of business experience with specific technical expertise in the design and manufacture of accessible countryside furniture. He provides training on countryside furniture design, installation and maintenance as well as the implications of BS 5709, DDA and Agenda 21 (sustainability).

Tom is a technical expert and was a member of the British Standards Working Party on Gaps, Gates and Stiles in 2001 and in 2006 when BS 5709 was revised. He works with a number of local authorities, non-governmental organisations and private landowners to advise on practical projects. In 1990 Tom set up Centrewire Ltd, a company specialising in the design and supply of countryside furniture especially gates providing good access for all. He established the Centrewire Gate Demonstration Area at Lewknor regularly visited by organisations such as county councils, access officers, wildlife trusts, disabled ramblers, National Trust and Natural England. He has also worked as a part-time warden on the Ridgeway National Trail.

Tom has lived in the Chilterns for 35 years and has a special love of woodlands. He is committed to the development of a sustainable environment and is a lifelong walker, hill and mountain climber. He also enjoys a good glass of wine and at one stage in his career had a sideline as a successful importer of cognac – those were the days!
