Alexandra joins the Access Company as Project Director for Walk London, to improve, promote and join up strategic walks across London and help realise the Mayor's vision of London as the most enjoyable walkable city by 2015.

She comes with a background in landscape and urban design, community planning, regeneration and research in the public, private and community/voluntary sector. A good lateral thinker and networker, Alex combines creative thinking with pragmatism.

Passionate about the quality of the urban environment and a great believer in walking as the best means to encounter and explore cities, she is keen to put her skills at the disposal of boroughs to get more people walking, enjoying it, and leaving the car behind.

Alex is a Green Flag judge, on the editorial board of the journal Green Places, to which she contributes periodic articles, and a CABE Space enabler.

When not walking, Alex is on two wheels; depending on energy levels this might be the scooter one day and the push bike the next. If she can't get anywhere on public transport (with or without a bike) then it's a car from a brilliant car club named after a film (clue:'desire'), as a last resort.

She has lived and worked in London for the majority of her working life and walked and cycled all over the city. To counter sedentary office life, she goes night walking in the Green Belt of Hertfordshire or spends Sunday messing about on an allotment. She has one son who, as a child used to shrug and say, 'a tree's a tree', is now an undergraduate in Manchester studying ... landscape design.
