Anne has enjoyed working to encourage and support recreation in the countryside for almost 20 years. She specialises in building effective partnerships between managers and the public and has extensive practical experience in surveying, access auditing, managing rights of way and coordinating professional best practice and communication networks.
Anne is Project Director with The Access Company and is currently evaluating ROWIPs for Natural England and coordinating Local Access Forum and ROWIP training across England. She is also working to summarise accessibilty of NNRs in Scotland and has advised a number of authorities on providing accessibility information. She wrote supplemntary guidance of writing ROWIPs, developed and edited the access Good Practice Guide for the Institute of Public Rights of Way Officers and continues to advise Natural England on funding opportunities for National Trails and other promoted paths. Anne is a national expert on monitoring and evaluating access and has written a definitive guide to measuring the relevance and effectiveness of access networks and presented papers on monitoring to international audiences.
She held several regional access posts at The Countryside Agency including National Trails, Rights of Way, Rights of Way Improvement Plans and access to CROW land. She spent time managing the Pennine Way National Trail and working as a Countryside Ranger in Durham after graduating from Leeds with a degree in Ecology.
Anne lives in Halifax in the middle of the Pennine hills with two gorgeous children and two cats. She has been a caver for more than 20 years and loves walking, especially if there’s a pub at the end!
