Benchmarking success for walking in London

Client: The Walking Advisory Panel

Summary:

The Access Company developed a questionnaire targeting the 33 local authorities and provided a practical interpretation to steer the development of further policy and target the investment of further resources.

The problem:

The relevance and effectiveness of the London Walking Plan was unclear and the body established to ensure sufficient resources and support was available to local authorities needed to know what to do where to ensure the delivery of the Mayor's vision to make London one of the most walking friendly cities in the world by 2015.

Our input:

The Access Company developed a questionnaire targeting the 33 local authorities and provided a practical interpretation to steer the development of further policy and target the investment of further resources.

The result:

The results of the survey were presented to the Walking Advisory Panel whose members include London Assembly members, police, health authorities and borough contacts.  The results have steered the focus of the group and impacted the way Transport for London fund walking schemes in the capital.  The Department for Transport impressed by the London questionnaire have committed to rolling out a similar version to all highway authorities across England.
