Client: Transport for London
We drafted policy for the Mayor's Transport Strategy to encourage the adoption of six strategic routes providing a section of exemplar route in every London borough.
With more than 400 promoted walks in the capital, many fragmented by borough boundaries and lack of resources, people were often disappointed by the inconsistent quality of walking experiences in London which limited the potential for more everyday walking journeys in the capital.
We drafted policy for the Mayor's Transport Strategy to encourage the adoption of six strategic routes covering a distance of more than 500km providing a section of exemplar route in every London borough. We developed a borough partnership with the support of every authority in London hosted by the City of London and have secured more than five million pounds to support the completion of the exemplary network.
One of the six routes has been completed and an adaptable methodology has been developed for the successful auditing, coordination and monitoring of a strategic network. Finances have been secured to extend the relevance of the network to include a further 26 routes linking more everyday destinations and visitor attractions. The exemplar management methodology is being considered as best practice for the delivery of an effective walking network of routes for the Olympic Games.
