Rights of Way Good Practice Guide

Client: Institute of Public Rights of Way

Summary:

We redesigned the IPROW GPG website, changing it from an out of date, poorly designed site to a complete, up to date, properly navigable site restoring it to its original function as the place to go for ROW information

The problem:

The IPROW good practice guide website (The GPG) (based on an earlier CD) was difficult to navigate and literally full of holes – over 50% of the pages had no content.
Users had lost faith with the site which was out of date and little used.

Our input:

We designed a web site to present the information in a more dynamic way.
The new structure was designed to mirror the ROWIP approach to ROW management.
We researched and wrote up examples of good practice, and updated the existing text

The result:

The new website was launched in 2005, material was added throughout 2005/6. At the end of the contract :

  • All pages had content.
  • Use had increased to an average of 60 people visiting per day.
  • On the last day of the contract 100 people were logged into the site.
  • New guidance on writing ROWIPs was available to everyone.
  • The GPG regained its status as the place to go for ROW information.
