Summary:

We delivered support and training to local authorities preparing ROWIPs over a 3 year period. We ran training events, supported regional staff, wrote guidance on writing a ROWIP, identified examples of good practice, and monitored progress for DEFRA towards the Nov 07 deadline.

The problem:

Authorities were starting to prepare ROWIPs, and finding it not too easy ! The Countryside Agency wanted to help – but weren’t sure what help was needed, or how to deliver it.

Our input:

We delivered ROWIP support and training to local authorities for 3 years.

We devised a programme of support designed to meet the changing needs of authorities as they went through the ROWIP process :

We ran national and local training events.
We worked with regional staff to give them the skills and confidence to provide support.
We wrote supplementary guidance on how to write a ROWIP producing a template authorities could follow.
We monitored progress on a national and regional level for DEFRA.
We identified examples of good practice in published ROWIPs
We read a lot of ROWIPs !

The result:

We helped 90% of local authorities to write ROWIPs.
Authorities are better equiped to access additional funding.
We provided an answer to 'where do we start?', 'how do we do this?' and 'what do we do next ?'.
